LSS “Music Being Stuck in One’s Head”

The truth is, everyone has experienced what last song syndrome is. Last song syndrome is also known to be the earworm. Earworm is a phrase or part of the song stuck to your mind, even the song is not playing anymore but you can still play it in your mind.

Every one of us have heard a song and some part of the like the chorus got stuck to our mind. Even the last song you have heard before leaving your car. In your entire journey, the part of the song is still there and still playing. There are ways how you sing the song, it’s like whistling the tune of the song, humming the song because you’re not yet familiar to the lyrics and lastly, you are going to search for the lyrics and at the end you going to sing the song with the lyrics, you can sing the song completely.

We get Last song syndrome, in places where there is music. Riding a bus, a taxi, in your own car, going to disco bars, concerts, and if you are totally amazed by the song it will be stuck to your mind for awhile. There are chances like you sing the song the whole. Everybody around you is also singing the song. In a classroom, if you sing the song repeatedly, for even 8 minutes, after the class your classmates are going to sing the song with you. That’s the truth behind that.

Music is loved by everybody. It helps someone to relief stress and forgets problems for a meanwhile. Music is also a therapy.  Music is used as an alternative therapy, its like do it yourself therapy because you’re just going to listen to your song. Many people believe without music, there’s no life. No happiness and no joy will ever exist. Our earth will be boring and problems are going to eat you already because you cannot forget it.
There is a situation like this. You heard a song played in the bus that you really hate and you think the song is not cool, but if you hear in repeatedly, afterwards, you’re going to hum or sing the song, and you’re going to hate yourself and its happening to someone.

Personally, I think in my everyday life I’m always a victim of last song syndrome. Back to the past I had the worse experience of having LSS. I heard the song “firework” by Katy Perry from the laptop of my dorm mate. I started copying the song to my phone and then I started to listen to the song every time. When I woke up in the morning, when its break time and before going to sleep. It’s like if the singer is with me, she’ll just hit me and maybe she’ll got a hoarse voice. But the time has come when I lost interest to the song, at the end of the day I have a new favorite song but with the same singer. I started to love the singer Katy Perry from then on until today. She’s great!  My favorite song also helps me with my sleeping habits, when I’m listening to it, I felt more relax and I didn’t notice that I’m already asleep.

This phenomenon is common to women and men. It sometimes occurs if someone is stressed, tired, depressed and lonely. It helps them to gain energy again.

You? Are you one of the victims of Earworm? Share your story.
